Physician offers tips for great skin
at any age

(Denver) ---You can’t turn back time or change your past, but you can change your skin, according to Dr. Alexis Parker. The technology currently available to change the look and feel of skin ranges from skincare products which stimulate collagen, hold moisture, and fight the free radicals that cause aging, to laser and radiofrequency medical devices which erase tiny red veins and brown spots, plump collagen, tighten skin, and reduce wrinkles, all with no recovery time.

According to Dr. Parker, prevention must start at birth. Babies need to be out of the sun for their first six months of life and then they need shade, sunblock and hats. By the time that someone is in their twenties their daily sunblock regimen ought to be sacroscant.

“ Some twenty year olds may want to add skin products and microdermabrasion to reduce fine lines, and possibly Botox to prevent the "chiseling” of frown and forehead lines,” Parker said.

Sunlight causes 90% of skin aging. UVA light breaks down the inner layer of the skin containing the collagen infrastructure. It stimulates the destruction of collagen and causes skin to produce tiny red veins and brown spots as well. Because everyone loses 1% of his or her collagen every year, age 30 is the time to combat further loss. This is the time when crow’s feet begin to appear.

“Fine lines can be treated with exfoliation, or removal of dead skin and stimulation of new growth in the form of prescription products such as Retin-A, cosmeceuticals with medical grades of alpha hydroxy acids and copper, and microdermabrasion which mechanically exfoliates and rejuvenates the surface of the skin.”

Collagen growth can be stimulated with the CoolTouch II or Lyra photorejuvenation laser. Also, Parker uses Thermalift to stimulate collagen growth, tighten collagen and lift the brows and cheeks. Many world-renowned cosmetic dermatologists recommend that people begin the procedure when they are in their thirties.

Sun damage becomes more pronounced at age 40 when tiny red veins and brown spots may start to appear on the surface of the skin. Lasers that target these superficial or epidermal lesions are unique in their ability to erase these lesions with very little to “no downtime.”

Forty-five is often the turning point when a look in the mirror is a surprise, when many people notice the signs of aging for the first time.

“At that age nearly 50% of collagen has disappeared, and if you have lived at one mile high for five years or more the rate is much faster and signs of aging may appear sooner as the sun is more intense here.”

Rejuvenation as well as prevention and protection become a must after 40, says Parker. Quality medical skin products, laser rejuvenation and restoration of lost collagen, regular microdermabrasion and/ or minipeels keep the skin glowing, plump and fresh appearing.

“The great thing about turning 50 is that it is not too late to begin an antiaging skin regimen that gets results and gets noticed by friends.”

Parker reports that if never used before, Botox can take off 5 years with a quick injection. Collagen and other products are available to fill lines and restore lips. Collagen tightening with the Thermalift and erasing superficial sun damage with laser and microdermabrasion are just a few of the non-operative measures that the doctor uses with her patients. The quest for beautiful, healthy skin doesn’t end in any decade.

“Your reflection in the mirror is important to you and to your self-image, no matter how gracefully you accept the aging process.”

At age 60, it is not too late to start, nor is it time to stop medical skincare. Collagen growth may be stimulated with Thermalift, and other forms of dermal rejuvenation. Tiny veins and brown spots continue to appear and these may be removed with lasers. The chiseling of deep lines can be further prevented with Botox. Parker has several solutions to keep lips full and free of fine lines at
any age. Plus she uses Microdermabrasion and medical skin products to keep cells stimulated, turning over, and the skin fresh and refined.

“There is no time like the present to create beautiful skin.”
