How BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® Work
Both of these injectable treatments provide their rejuvenating effects by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles of your face that control functions such as squinting and furrowing the brow. What to Expect
The process of receiving injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® is fast and painless. Dr. Parker may use a light topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort during treatment. Next, tiny amounts of the drug are injected into the areas you wish to treat. Within a few days of treatment, you will begin noticing that wrinkles and fine lines have softened, giving you a rested, refreshed appearance. You can expect the effects of botulinum toxin to last about four months. After that time, many patients decide to undergo additional treatments to continue enjoying the reduced signs of aging.
Risks
Injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® at our Denver office are very safe, though they do carry a small amount of risk. Infection is a risk associated with all injectable treatments. Side effects can include redness, headache, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In very rare cases, botulinum toxin can migrate from the treated area, causing breathing problems, slurred speech, or difficulties swallowing.
