How Sculptra® Works
Sculptra® consists of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible synthetic material used in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. It is not harmful, and over time, the body will break poly-L-lactic acid down. When it is injected below the surface of the skin in an area of fat loss, Sculptra® provides a gradual increase in volume that occurs over four to six weeks.
Because of swelling and water used to dilute Sculptra®, you may notice an immediate increase in volume following treatment. This will subside after a few days, but you will begin to notice increased volume as the weeks pass. The number of treatments you receive will depend upon the amount of volume you wish to achieve. Sculptra® Candidates
If you have observed lost volume in your cheeks, under your eyes, or in the folds that extend from your nostrils to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds), Sculptra® may be an excellent solution for you. You should not use Sculptra® if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, or if you have an active skin infection or inflammation.
Combining Sculptra® with Other Treatments

Risks
Every injectable treatment involves a risk of infection. It is common to experience tenderness, redness, or bruising after treatment, but this will subside within a few days to two weeks. In some cases, patients experience a delayed side effect in which small bumps develop under the skin at the treatment area.
