Frequently Asked Questions about Thermage:
How does the treatment work?
The Thermage uses radio frequency to stimulate and rejuvenate the deepest layers of skin. A precise level of radio frequency energy is delivered to the deepest layers of your skin. The result of this energy absorption is twofold. First, the deep layers of skin contract, which tightens the surface layers of skin and reduces the appearance of droopy eyelids, and saggy jaw lines. Second, collagen production is stimulated, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and acne valleys.
What is the treatment like?
During the treatment, you will feel a pulse of cold, then a quick spike of heat, followed by another pulse of cold. To optimize your comfort, Dr. Parker will prescribe pain medication to be taken prior to treatment. Your skin may feel tighter immediately after treatment. Because all of the energy is directed to the inner layer of skin, you will have no visible signs of treatment (redness) on the surface of the skin. After the Thermage procedure is complete, you are able to immediately return to your normal activity.
What improvements will I see?
A single treatment of Thermage results in tissue tightening and improvement in skin tone. Most patients report changes in skin texture and tone 8 to16 weeks after their treatment. Improvements in skin texture and tone continue over time. The final results of the treatment are noted 4-6 months after the treatment. The latest research indicates that there is an additive effect with multiple treatments. Dr. Parker uses follow up Thermage treatments to “fine tune” the treatment results. Thermage is not a replacement for surgery. However, it may be a satisfactory alternative to patients with early signs of aging skin, or for those with more advanced signs of aging who prefer not to have surgery and are willing to accept the more subtle benefit offered by Thermage. It is also a great way to maintain beautiful skin or preserve the dramatic effects of a facelift.
